2020 Kidding Schedule
Unless otherwise noted, doelings and bucklings are $350; wethers are $100 or two for $150. Reservations prior to kidding are taken on a first-come, first-served basis via our contact form, and Took a Leap Farm reserves the right to retain any kid born on the farm. There is no fee for a reservation until kids are born and selected, at which point a non-refundable fee of $100, payable online, is required to hold a kid (or two wethers) until pick-up.
With the exception of wethers and pet-quality doelings, all kids will be sold tattooed and registered with ADGA.
Our herd was tested for CAE, CL, Johne's, brucellosis, and tuberculosis in May 2018, with all animals negative.

3/12/2020 |
Incredibly, we've never retained a doeling out of Scanny, and as she heads toward retirement, we're going to try one more time to get a keeper girl -- she didn't settle last year, but our fingers are crossed for success with DWB! Did not settle. Sigh. |

4/9/2020 |
Love love love Tasha (LA 2019 92 EEEE)...she's the bomb around these parts. One of our biggest producers, TT has produced a number of gorgeous kids who share her talent on the milkstand. We have retained several of her kids, including Shel Silverstein and Rosie Revere - who are so awesome that we decided to repeat the breeding with their sire, Waldo, again for 2020. Doelings $600; bucklings $500. Did not settle. Rebreeding for Fall 2020 kids.. |
||
4/13/2020 |
We're incredibly happy to have had Rita as part of our herd since the early days - she's made her mark on the milkstand, with lovely kids, and in our most recent linear appraisal (LA 2019 91 EEEE). Our friend, Abby, at Valley's Edge has graciously allowed us to take advantage of Geronimo this season - this pairing should make for some "wowza" kids! Kidded on 4/16 with twins (1 doeling, 1 buckling):

4/16/2020 |
As Trixie gets older, we wanted to give her one more shot at motherhood before retirement. She is a doting mama...who loves giving (and getting) kisses on the milkstand. We're pairing her up with Epizeuxis (Took a Leap Rita Repeata x Took a Leap Shel Silverstein), our 2019 retained herdsire, for one last batch of beautiful kids. Did not settle. |
||
3/23/2020 |
Fiala is the resident "brat" -- but we keep her around because she's an amaaaaazing milker with terrific production in her pedigree. (Her littermate sister from 2013, Sugar Moon V Zuzanna, has been breaking production records left and right at Amethyst Acres Farm, where she recently became the highest-producing Nigerian dwarf goat of all time.) We're hoping this breeding with Geronimo brings some elegance to Fi's kids...we want to balance the production she has (in spades) with a little more refinement. Doelings $600; no bucklings. Kidded on 3/27 with one buckling (M18, Tyrian); RETAINED |
||
4/3/2020 |
Minnie's always been the unassuming one, sort of hovering in the background...but in 2019, she had a stellar year with great production and super LA scores (87 VVEV). We're excited to breed her to Uwanami, who has never been one to hang around in the background! Did not settle. |

Took a Leap Maker's Mark |
3/14/2020 |
Lily has taken her time coming into her own, but now that she's here, wow! She's a delightfully easy and productive milker who shares many of her dam's (Sugar Moon Win-Doe Dressing) great dairy qualities. We're breeding her with Maker's Mark, our 2018 retained herdsire, with the goal of producing super-dairy kids! Kidded on 3/17 with 2 bucklings, both RESERVED:

3/12/2020 or 3/19/2020 |
Whiskey is one of those goats that we are sosososo happy to have in our herd - she's the retained daughter of NC PromisedLand BW Echo 2 and Sugar Moon Viva Las Vegas, bred by Sharon Peck but born here at Took a Leap Farm. She's one of those goats that doesn't give a single sign that she's in heat, so we didn't get her bred last year (dangit!) - we're eager to get Geronimo on the case for some gorgeous 2020 kids! Doelings $500; bucklings $350. Kidded on 3/19 with triplets (2 doelings, 1 buckling):

3/3/2020 |
Dahlov really brought it in 2019 -- she put lots of milk in the pail for us and gave us a lot of attitude along the way. We've been delighted with Waldo's offspring here on the farm, so we're making the love match here - Dahlov has excellent dairy character and body capacity, but we'd like to see a see an improvement in her udder in successive generations. Kidded on 3/2 with one buckling (M4, Lewis Carroll); reserved (SM). |
||
3/10/2020 |
After a challenging first two freshenings (through no fault of her own!), Perla finally had a chance to show us her stuff on the milkstand this year. We love the potential in this girl is being realized - just like her sister, Miraflores, who came out cranking as a first freshener and earned SG and Elite Doe status at Denbow Acres Farm. The kids from this breeding will carry some lovely dairy pedigrees! Doelings $450. Kidded on 3/13 with 2 doelings:

Luby caught us by surprise in her second freshening - she's developed into a lovely doe with her dam's capacious udder. We've leased her to a farm in Vermont for strong line-bred kids in 2020. ON LEASE 2019-2020 |
|
3/24/2020 |
Huehue (pronounced "way-way") is a lovely little doe -- flashy and productive, thanks to some sweet genetics from Second Wind Kona and Painted Pepper RJ Soleil. Looking forward to seeing kids from this pairing with Uwa, who scored an 89 on his 2019 linear appraisal! Doelings $450. Kidded on 3/24 with triplets (2 bucklings, 1 doeling):
|
||
4/9/2020 |
Daughter of Lily, Cherry is following in her dam's footprints with a beautiful, capacious udder -- and we know she has more in store as she matures! Paired with Shel for 2020 kids, she should produce some exciting offspring! DID NOT SETTLE. |
||
3/10/2020 |
We've enjoyed working with Chiva as a first freshener...she's got her dam's voluminous udder with improved teat and orifice size. We're looking forward to seeing her second freshening performance, as well as her kids with Uwa! Kidded on 3/13 with one buckling (M7, Apollo); RESERVED. |
||
4/4/2020 |
First freshener Jacaranda is heavily line-bred on Sugar Moon V Fiala, littermate sister to the top-producing Nigerian of all time, Sugar Moon V Zuzanna. We're eager to see what this pairing produces....Yellow Jacket has some powerhouse dairy genetics behind him, as well! Kidded on 4/4 with one doeling (M20, Bougainvillea); RESERVED. |
||
3/25/2020 |
Beaner Weiner has been our "baby" since she was born. She was itty bitty for the longest time, but then she started to mature into a lovely little doe. Bred to Yellow Jacket, her first freshening promises lots of good things! Kidded on 3/25 with twins (1 doeling, 1 buckling):
|
||
4/8/2020 |
Another first freshener, Fandango has lots the elegant dairy character that her dam, Fiala, lacks. We're breeding her to DWB to ensure that future generations have great milk production, refinement, and remain underheight! Kidded on 4/10 with twins (1 doeling, 1 buckling):
|
||
4/16/2020 |
Eulalia, a first freshener, will hopefully follows in her dam's hoofprints -- she's got great pedigrees behind her, and this breeding with Waldo is sure to produce beautiful kids. Kidded on 4/17 with one buckling (M25, Sailor); RESERVED. |
||
3/14/2020 |
Mico, who will freshen for the first time in 2020, is a beautiful little doe out of Sugar Moon Dulcinea. The first of DWB's daughters to kid, Mico is paired with Yellow Jacket for more awesome Valley's Edge genetics! Kidded prematurely. |
||
4/3/2020 |
Jujube is a first freshener - we waited to get a little more size on her before breeding, just in case. She's a special little girl, the only daughter of Fairlea Marlowe, who passed last fall. We only used Marlowe a tiny bit in one breeding season...so we're looking forward to seeing another generation of his kids here on the farm. Kidded on 3/29 with one doeling (Mochi, M19), RESERVED |
||
4/15/2020 |
Another stellar Sugar Moon doe, Winnie has given us a number of beautiful, productive daughters. We're pairing her up with some new genetics here on the farm -- and expecting great things when she kids! Did not settle. |
||
3/1/2020 |
After taking 2019 off, we're excited to have Encore back on the stand in the coming season...she's a terrific little doe with a great temperament and nice production. Kidded on 2/29 with 3 doelings:

TBD |
We had intended to give Avignon the year off, but when we made the decision to lease Luby for the coming year, it was an easy choice to get Avi back on the stand. Paired up with Shel, we're anticipating some awesome kids out of this girl in 2020! |
