2020 Kidding Schedule
Unless otherwise noted, doelings and bucklings are $350; wethers are $100 or two for $150. Reservations prior to kidding are taken on a first-come, first-served basis via our contact form, and Took a Leap Farm reserves the right to retain any kid born on the farm. There is no fee for a reservation until kids are born and selected, at which point a non-refundable fee of $100, payable online, is required to hold a kid (or two wethers) until pick-up.
With the exception of wethers and pet-quality doelings, all kids will be sold tattooed and registered with ADGA.
Our herd was tested for CAE, CL, Johne's, brucellosis, and tuberculosis in May 2018, with all animals negative.

For some odd reason, Googoo is always the first doe on the kidding schedule - and she's true to form for 2019, too! An NC PromisedLand BW Echo 2 daughter, Googoo never disappoints, producing beautiful, strong kids and lots of milk on the stand. Kidded 3/3/2019 with two doelings. L1, Zenyatta Mondatta, available: $350 L2, Reggatta de Blanc (Reggie), retained by breeder |

Fiala is the resident "brat" -- but we keep her around because she's an amaaaaazing milker with terrific production in her pedigree. (In 2013, her dam, NC PromisedLand SIA Zena (LA 2012 VEEE90) milked 296 days on test with a total production of 1189 pounds, and her full sister from 2013, Sugar Moon V Zuzanna, has been breaking production records left and right at Amethyst Acres Farm, including being one of only five Nigerians to ever milk over 1700 pounds in a 305 day lactation.) And this pairing, with the son of another monster milker (Old Mountain Farm Tasha Tudor) hopefully spells milk galore. Kidded 3/6/2019 with one stillborn buckling. |

Rita slipped through on our breeding plans for 2017, but we weren't making that mistake twice! She's back, bred to Shel, for the 2019 season...and we can't wait to have this girl on the stand again. One of our top milkers, Rita's given us a number of beautiful, productive kids and several bucklings that have made their marks on other farms. And we love those Echo/OMF Black Tulip genetics! Kidded 3/7/2019 with triplets: L8, Uhtred (wether): reserved - thank you, Breanna! L9, Epizeuxis (buckling): available, $350 L10, Dansette (doeling) retained by breeder |
||
3/6/2019 |
Another of our Sugar Moon girls, Dulci has been a terrific addition to the herd - she's quite the character, but also quite the producer. We're gaga over her 2018 retained doeling, Micomicona, and can't wait to welcome a new batch of Dulci-babes in the spring. Kidded 3/7/2019 with one buckling: L4, Benengeli, reserved - thank you, Phillip! |
||
3/8/2019 |
Buddy has been a terrific brood doe at Took a Leap, and this pairing with Atcha should make for some lovely kids. While Buddy may not jump out at you at first, she's one of the steadiest, longest-milking does that we have - the more we see of Buddy, the more we like! Buddy has been sold to a terrific farm in New Hampshire, where she had three little doelings on March 9! |

3/8/2019 |
Repeating our 2018 breeding with Huehue, who turned out to be one of a vey nice group of first fresheners -- once she decided that the milk stand wasn't such a bad place to be! We're excited to see what Huehue does this season. Kidded 3/7/2019 with twin boys: L5, Rudy (wether), reserved - thank you, Breanne! L6, Zaculeu (wether), available: $100 |
||
3/8.2019 |
Looking forward to seeing this daughter of NC PromisedLand BW Echo 2 freshen for a third time....this combo should be utterly fantastic, with NC PromisedLand BW Echo 2 (LA 90) and Tiny Angels Maybeline (LA 90) as granddams to the kids! Kidded 3/9/2019 with twin boys: L14, Pere Ubu (wether), available: $100 L15, Wang Chung (wether), available: $100 |
||
3/8/2019 |
Another doe that flies beneath the radar until you see what she can do on the stand -- holy udder, Batman! This girl is a dream to milk, and this pairing with Shel should result in some lovely kids! Kidded 3/8/2019 with triplets: L11, Francine (doeling), available: $300 L12, Delphine (doeling), retained L13, Rufus (wether), reserved - thank you, Breanne! |
||
3/8/2019 |
Love love love Tasha (VEEV 90)...she's the bomb around these parts. Our biggest producer, TT has produced a number of gorgeous kids who share her talent on the milkstand, and her 2016 breeding with Waldo produced Shel Silverstein, our 2017 retained buckling. Kidded 3/11/2019 with twins: L16, Rosie Revere (doeling), retained L17, Iggy Peck (buckling), RESERVED: $400 - thank you, Miriam! |
||
3/26/2019 |
It has been so hard to be patient for Tully to be ready for breeding...she and her sister, Angel's Envy, were hands-down our favorite doelings in 2017, and now we get to see what Tully can do! Kidded 3/24/2019 with twins: L18, Liusaidh (doeling), available L19, Uisdean (wether), available |
||
3/26/2019 |
After a season off, we're glad Minnie will be back on the milkstand this year! Minnie has been a solid brood doe here at the farm, and we missed her friendly presence in the parlor last year. Kidded 3/25/2019 with triplets: L25, doeling, available L26, doeling, reserved L27, wether, available |
||
3/27/2019 |
Another of our promising second fresheners - Tuppy was not only productive, but talkative, earning her the title of "Barn Favorite" with our farm helpers. And given the crazy spotting on both Tuppy and DWB, we're expecting just a little bit of flash from this breeding. Kidded 3/27/2019 with one doeling: L28, Theodosia, reserved - thank you, Amy! |
||
3/27/2019 |
We're glad to welcome Peridot back to the milking parlor in 2019...she was an accidental oversight for 2018 breedings, and we were bummed that we didn't get to see her evolve as a second freshener. It'll be great to have this girl, with Second Wind genetics, back on the stand this season! Peridot has been sold to a terrific farm in New Hampshire, and we're waiting to hear news on how her upcoming kidding goes! Update: Peri had two beautiful baby boys on March 27. Good girl, Peri! |
||
3/27/2019 |
We confess...the "candy" line out of Sugar Moon Penuchi is one of our favorite, as it's produced lovely girls with terrific dairy capacity (and wattles!). And Peppermint Patty is no exception. We're anxiously awaiting her second freshening - and some beautiful kids with Uwanami! Kidded 3/25/2019 with triplets: L22, Abba Zaba (doeling), available L23, Bit O' Honey (doeling), available L24, Pixy Stix (doeling), reserved - thank you, Amy! |

We were very selective in choosing our 2017 doeling "keepers", so we're doubly anxious to see some of the kids from girls like Cherry. Paired up with Shel Silverstein, there's a lot of awesome dairy production (and Sugar Moon genetics) in this breeding! Kidded 4/2/2019 with one buckling: L33, Ranier - available as a wether, $100 |
||
3/30/2019 |
Avi is another girl that knows her business - she milks long and strong, and her babies have been lovely. And fortunately, Basil learned his business early, although he did have to stand on tip-toes to accomplish his mission! It'll be fun to see little Basil babies on the ground! Kidded 3/25/2019 with triplets: L29, Honoria (doeling), available L30, Vaucluse (wether), available L31, Cassie (doeling), available. |
||
4/3/2019 |
Mariposa, aka "Clampig" (don't even ask), is another first freshener with terrific genetics and more than a little flash. We can't wait to see what she and DWB cook up for 2019! Kidded 4/2/2019 with one buckling: L32, Monarch - available as a wether, $100 |
||
4/3/2019 |
Encore's been a great little producer here at the farm..can't wait to have her assessed through linear appraisal later in 2019! No bucklings. |
||
4/3/2019 |
Winnie took the season off in 2018, so we're excited to see this beautiful Sugar Moon doe (LA89) back on the stand in 2019! The breeding with Shel again highlights some amazing Sugar Moon pedigrees...should make for beautiful kids! Kidded 4/4/2019 with twin doelings; one to be retained (TBD), one available ($500) L38, Trofimena L39, Sfogliatella |
||
4/4/2019 |
We're hoping that 2019 is the break-out year for Perla...her sister, Miraflores, came out cranking and earned Elite Doe status at Denbow Acres Farm, but Perla's had a few setbacks that required us to dry her off early. We know she has it in her, and we're hoping that her third freshening is the charm! Kidded 4/4/2019 with twin bucklings: L36, Mogo Mogo - available, $300 L37, Gibraleon - available $300 |
||
4/4/2019 |
Oh boy, do we have high hopes for Quechiva and this breeding with Waldo! Chiva has developed into a beautiful yearling - she definitely catches your eye when you walk into the barn - and if she has her dam's productivity (with an improved udder), we're in business. A first freshener, Chiva's breeding with Waldo should produce some super kids! Kidded 4/4/2019 with twin doelings: L34, Inchi Pinchi, available L35, Cahuita, available |
||
4/12/2019 |
Scandal is a beloved member of our herd - she was one of our foundation does, purchased from Sharon Peck at Willow Moon Farm when we got started in 2011. We suspect that this will be the last time we breed her...and finger crossed that she has at least one doeling, because we don't have any of her kids here at the farm! No bucklings. Breeder to retain one doeling. |
||
4/19/2019 |
Luby is another beautiful doe that's gotten off to a slow start, through no fault of her own. Here's hoping that 2019 brings her better luck -- and some gorgeous babies with Basil! No bucklings. |
||
4/19/2019 |
A daughter of our phenomenal Tasha Tudor, Dahlov really came into her own in 2018. This pairing with Waldo highlights some amazing pedigrees and is full of dairy potential. No bucklings. |
||
4/19/2019 |
Whiskey is one of those goats that we are sosososo happy to have in our herd - she's the retained daughter of NC PromisedLand BW Echo 2 and Sugar Moon Viva Las Vegas, bred by Sharon Peck but born here at Took a Leap Farm. The only bad thing about this breeding is that it's later in the season -- and we love to milk this girl! Doelings: $500; bucklings $400. Breeder to retain one doeling. |
||
4/21/2019 |
Dam to Quechiva and Perla, Pura Vida produces like crazy...so crazy that she's a bit difficult to milk when her udder is full. We've had some success in improving udders in her offspring, and hope that we can continue that trend with this breeding to Shel. No bucklings. |
||
4/21/2019 |
Bloomie has a been a quietly steady producer in our herd - a nice little brood doe who doesn't need to be the star of the show. No bucklings. |
||
5/26/2019 |
We've had quite a time getting Standing O to settle this year - we bred her to Waldo three times, and if the third time wasn't the charm, she can play the role of doting auntie in the spring. Only time will tell - but our fingers are crossed, because her first freshening was a pleasant surprise. No bucklings. |
